THE PERFORMERS:
“Songwriters Night” at the Balsam Mountain Inn is always a popular event but it is exceptionally so the few times a year that “Inn Favorites” Casey Kelly, Leslie Ellis and Todd Cerney return with their hit songs and entertaining songwriter round.
They really put on a great show.
These laid-back, onstage personalities seem like they’re having a blast says Balsam Mountain Inn Owner/Innkeeper Kim Shailer. “I like to hear the stories of how they wrote their songs and how they got the songs to the artists who made them hits.”
Casey Kelly is a veteran of the Balsam Mountain Inn. His performing career spans 3 decades from sideman to Tom Rush on tour to headliner upon the release of his two albums (Casey Kelly and For Sale) on Elektra Records. Kelly’s years of touring gave him the forum to hone his skills as a singer and guitarist. Onstage, he recounts the stories behind the songs which give the audience unique insight into the hits they recognize from the radio. A two-time Grammy®-nominated songwriter for “Soon” (Tanya Tucker) & “Anyone Who Isn't Me Tonight” (Kenny Rogers/Dottie West) Kelly’s other hits include “That Road Not Taken” (Joe Diffie) and “Cowboy Rides Away” (George Strait).

Leslie Ellis - Grammy® Award winning vocalist Leslie Ellis teamed up with Kelly and Cerney 4 years ago when she moved to Nashville. Together they have taken their show around the US and to Norway. Leslie offers is a uniquely feminine perspective in contrast to Kelly and Cerney which is a nice balance. Most notably, when she sings the Dottie West part in the duet recorded with Kenny Rogers. In the intro to the song Kelly jokes, “It’s nice to have her in the show, it’s just not pretty when I do the girl part.” Leslie has sung with many artists including Celine Dion (“My Heart will Go On”) and Thomas Dolby. Last year her self penned “The Flyer Song” was adopted by the US Navy and made into a video as a tribute to the troops and their families. MORE on Leslie HERE >>>>
Todd Cerney - Grammy® nominated, #1 hit and 1987 ASCAP song of the year, “I’ll Still Be Loving You” - Todd Cerney quips that, “This is my first hit and my latest hit”.
He’s referring to the fact that the song was a hit for Restless Heart in 1987 and again a hit for Reba Mcintyre this year. Cerney is a versatile performer with the aptitude for multiple instruments, many of which hang from his electric piano. He delights the audience at the close of the show with…well…a surprise duet! His hits also include "Good Morning Beautiful" (Steve Holy), "Smokestack Lightning" (Lynyrd Skynyrd) and"Blues Is My Business" (Etta James/"The Sopranos")
Kelly, Ellis and Cerney play the Balsam Mountain Inn on Saturday, April 26th at 8 pm. Reservations are recommended as the dining room fills up quickly for dinner and the show. “This show is not to be missed”, concludes Shailer, “If you’re going to come to one of them…this is the one to catch!” MORE on Todd HERE >>
